This is a common operation
which is wide spread and well handled and not particularly
painful for the patient. The major challenge the patient
faces with this operation is largely in the strict postoperative
requirements which must be followed.
The patient must keep his head in an
inclined position 24 hours a day for the entire convalescent
period which can vary from 7 to 21 days.
The patient must deal with problems of
stress, tension,
discomfort and boredom
during convalescence.
Most specialists agree that the chances
of success with this operation depend primarily on the patient's
ability to keep his head inclined during the entire convalescence.
